The Second Life Index
|

The Second Life Index is a directory of map locations within the Second Life world. Currently
over 6,200 regions are in the Index, sorted by the regions's name.

Region Menu
In the left column of this website you will find the Region Menu. Using this menu, you can browse the entire
Index. Clicking on a letter in the menu will take you to an alphabetical listing of regions beginning
with that letter.
Alphabetical Listing
On an Alphabetical Listing page, for a particular letter, you will see a table of regions with their names
and X/Y coordinates. Clicking on a region's name will take you to the map page for that region.
Map Page
Once you are on the map page for a particular region, you may view the map of the region and use the map's scrolling
and zooming functions. You may also "teleport" to that region.
[2007-03-05] There is a problem with Internet Explorer 7 displaying the maps.
The maps appear to work fine in IE6 and Firefox 1.5.]
[Note: Some regions do not have any structures or even any land.]

Teleporting
"Teleport" is a Second Life term for instant transportation to a location. If you see a region that you would like to
visit, simply click the "Teleport to ..." link at the top of the map page and it will open up the Second Life
program and transport you there.

[Note: Some regions are private and do not allow you to teleport to them.]

You must have Second Life installed on your system and have already created an avatar (your virtual self) in order to teleport.
If you have not joined yet, you may follow the link in the left column of this website. It will take you straight to the sign-up
form.
Basic membership is free and that is fine for most people. However, a Premium membership allows you to own land and even
gives you a stipend of 300 Linden Dollars per week. If you want to make a "real world" living in Second Life, you will most
certantly want a Premium membership.

What is Second Life?
Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. Since opening to the public in
2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by more than 3.4 million people from around the globe.

From the moment you enter the Second Life world you will discover a vast digital continent, teeming with people,
entertainment, experiences and opportunity. Since you can create virtually everything (huge houses, sports cars,
designer clothes, etc.) in Second Life, you will find yourself surrounded by the creations of your fellow residents.
Once you have explored a bit, perhaps you will find the perfect parcel of land on which to build your house or business.
The Marketplace currently supports millions of US dollars in monthly transactions. This commerce is handled
with the unit-of-trade for Second Life, the Linden dollar, which can be converted to US dollars at several
thriving online Linden Dollar exchanges. Residents retain the rights to their digital creations, so they can
buy, sell and trade with other residents. Many people already make their "real-world" living in Second Life
and more are doing so everyday.
